Conley Assoc. Inc.,\u00a0Preferred Utilities upgraded several multi-burner boilers from manual\u00a0to automatic firing rate control within the guidelines of NFPA 85.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nOriginally a 4-burner manual system firing natural gas, Preferred\u2019s\u00a0PLC-based BMS, PCC-III controllers, and DCS-III Controllers now allow\u00a0for successive burners to be automatically lit-off or stopped based on\u00a0load demand. Sequencing of burners is now made by way of a burner\u00a0firing order\u201d selection screen.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, operators can now choose either Warm-up or Hot\u00a0Standby\u00a0mode. Warm-up mode holds one or two burners at low-fire until the\u00a0boiler reaches its minimum flue gas temperature. Once reached, the\u00a0firing rate and additional burners will light-off or shut down based on\u00a0load demand.<\/p>\n<p>Hot Standby holds one or two burners in the same manner, but once\u00a0the flue gas temperature is met, the burners shut down and the boiler\u00a0is tripped.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred provided more upgrades, including dual 15-inch touch screens,\u00a0\u201cigniter only\u201d mode and sequencing flexibility for operators.\u00a0A fully-metered, cross-limited fuel-air ratio control with FD fan VSD\u00a0and Oxygen Trim control provides for improved combustion efficiency.\u00a03-element feed water and 2-element draft controllers provide for reliable\u00a0operation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boiler Controls Upgraded for Efficiency,\u00a0Flexibility, and Reliability &nbsp; Ford Motor Company sought to upgrade its burner management and\u00a0combustion control systems at its research and engineering powerhouse\u00a0in Dearborn, MI.
