According to the EPA, the changes to the UST regulations are because of new technology proven to be reliable and accurate and the wide variety of new fuels on the market. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There are four main reasons for the EPA\u2019s changes to the UST regulations:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00b7<span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Operating and maintaining UST equipment properly<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00b7<span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Prevent and detect UST spills and Releases <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00b7<span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Protect against groundwater pollution <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>\u00b7<span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><b>Even standard for all UST<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.preferred-mfg.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/025.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-791 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.preferred-mfg.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/025-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"329\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepyroscope.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/025-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thepyroscope.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/025.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Below are some of the following new changes to the EPA regulations that must be completed by October 13, 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">1.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Secondary Containment, Interstitial Leak Detection, Dispenser Containment<sup>1<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">When installing or replacing UST and piping owners must install secondary containment. Along with secondary containment, the owner must place interstitial monitoring as spill monitoring in these new tanks and pipes. Every new UST must have an Under-Dispenser Containment (UDC) installed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">2.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><strong>New Minimum Training Requirements<\/strong><sup><strong>2<\/strong> <\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Each operator working with a UST must be trained on the equipment by the manufacturer. Class A and B operators must receive training before October 13, 2018, or within 30 days of returning to work responsibilities. Class C workers must be trained before October 13, 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">3.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Walk Through Checks and Tests of Equipment<sup>3<\/sup><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Every 30 days the following equipment must be checked and tested: spill prevention equipment, release detection equipment, containment sump testing, and release detection system. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">4.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Updated Criteria for Storing New Fuels<sup>4<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">New regulations for UST storing new emerging fuels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">5.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Past Deferrals for equipment were Removed<sup>5 6<\/sup><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The old deferral system for emergency generator tanks, field constructed tanks (FCT), airport hydrant systems (AHS) and wastewater treatment tank systems has changed due to new technology giving operators the ability to correctly and securely monitor these tanks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">6.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><strong>Updated Codes of Practice<sup>7<\/sup>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">New and updated codes of practice. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">7.<\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">State Program Approval (SPA)<sup>8<\/sup><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The EPA now requires that your state follow the new updated changes made to the UST regulations, even if you are in Indian country. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For a comprehensive list of changes made by the EPA go to: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/revising-underground-storage-tank-regulations-revisions-existing-requirements-and-new\">https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ust\/revising-underground-storage-tank-regulations-revisions-existing-requirements-and-new#compliance<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For a more detailed breakdown of each change go to: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/production\/files\/2015-07\/documents\/regs2015-crosswalk.pdf\">https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/production\/files\/2015-07\/documents\/regs2015-crosswalk.pdf<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">These kind of changes blindside many facilities.
