A Simpler Approach to Reactor Cavity Sealing
The Preferred Engineering Cavity Seal System provides nuclear facilities with a practical solution for sealing the reactor annulus while simplifying installation and verification.
The system uses segmented EPDM extrusions that are custom-made to fit your reactor annulus. Polished stainless-steel cover plates work with stainless-steel J-bolts and cam-actuated toggle nuts to compress each seal securely. Unlike systems that depend on torque measurements during installation, the Cavity Seal System allows seal compression to be checked directly with a feeler gauge.
This is only one of the ways the Cavity Seal System simplifies the process. The toggle nuts also feature visual indicators that make it easy for technicians to confirm whether each component is actuated or unactuated giving crews another clear method for checking system status.
The system’s design makes efficient use of valuable outage time since it can be installed in approximately 60 to 75 minutes by two to three RXS technicians. Once installed, a J-bolt leak test can verify the seal before cavity flood-up, providing additional assurance before moving to the next stage.
The system was designed to be easily maintained. It uses individual EPDM seal sections that can be inspected and replaced separately rather than treating the entire seal as a single component.
For nuclear facilities looking to streamline their cavity seal while maintaining safety and efficiency, the Preferred Engineering Cavity Seal System is a purpose-built engineering solution. Reach out to learn more about this product or to discuss your outage needs.
