Answering the Call: Morning, Noon or Night

Another round of equipment just left our facility in Danbury, CT: pump skids, day tanks, flow control manifolds, jockey skids, and filtration skids, all headed to yet another data center client. It’s become a familiar sight on our shipping floor, and there’s a good reason for that.

Data centers don’t get to have a bad day. When a facility is running cloud services, financial transactions, or healthcare records, downtime isn’t an inconvenience, it’s a headline. So when the utility power drops, the backup generators have to start, and they have to keep running for as long as it takes. That’s the whole job.

The part that doesn’t always get enough attention is that a generator is only as reliable as the fuel system feeding it. You can install the best generator on the market, but if the pump set hesitates, a day tank runs dry, or a control signal gets lost between two vendors’ equipment, that generator is just a very expensive piece of steel sitting in the dark.

Building for mission-critical work

When Preferred builds for mission-critical facilities, a few things must be true. Redundancy isn’t an upgrade, it must be built in from the start. Quality is the expectation, not the hope. Facility teams want complete control and visibility into their fuel system, so they know what’s happening at every tank and every pump without walking the floor to find out.

And one more thing that we’ll say to anyone who asks: factory testing beats field troubleshooting every time. Every system we ship gets tested in Danbury before it ever reaches the job site. Problems found on our floor get fixed on our floor, not at 2 a.m. during commissioning with a construction schedule bearing down on everyone.

One system, one team, one phone call

We design, build, and test the whole fuel oil system: pump sets, day tanks, and controls, engineered to work together from day one. It is not a pieced-together system from multiple vendors and left for the contractor to sort out.

That matters more than it might sound. When the pumps come from one company, the tanks from another, and the controls from a third, every interface between them becomes a question mark. Whose wiring is it? Whose logic? Whose problem? With Preferred, there’s one source of accountability, from submittal through startup and long after the ribbon is cut.

We’ve been building fuel oil systems for more than a century, and we’re still the people who pick up the phone when you call. morning, noon, and night.

Don’t settle for less

If you’re planning a new data center, expanding an existing campus, or rethinking how your backup fuel system is put together, talk to us early on in your process. The best time to design reliability is before the first submittal goes out. Your generators are counting on it.
