SCADA Deployment for a Mission Critical Facility — Ahead of Schedule
Mission critical infrastructure depends on reliable fuel oil handling where there is no margin for error, and no room for delays. That’s why we’re pleased to share that Stage 2 of an ongoing large-scale deployment for a mission critical facility has been successfully completed, and it came in ahead of schedule.
Project Background
A year ago, Preferred was entrusted with providing all Fuel Oil Handling Equipment and Control Systems for a large mission critical facility. Projects of this scale demand precision engineering, tight coordination, and systems that perform flawlessly from day one.
What Was Deployed in Stage 2
Stage 2 involved the provision and deployment of two Preferred SCADAs, each programmed to monitor a fully integrated Fuel Oil Handling System across opposite wings of the facility:
- SCADA #1 monitors all Fuel Oil System (FOS) equipment in the North Wing
- SCADA #2 monitors all FOS equipment in the South Wing
Each wing houses a FOS comprised of four groups (A, B, C, D). Each group includes:
- 4 Main Storage Tanks
- 12 Day Tanks
- A Fuel Oil Supply Pump Set
- A Remote Fill Station
- A Filtration Panel
Each wing also includes 2 Transfer Pump Sets, allowing fuel to be transferred to or received from any of the Main Storage Tanks with full flexibility.

How the System Works
The Preferred Fuel Oil Handling System is designed to operate intelligently and autonomously. Here’s what it manages:
- Starts and stops supply pumps based on demand signals from the Day Tanks
- Manages pumped fill operations for the Main Storage Tanks
- Maintains fuel oil quality throughout the system
- Modulates the flow control manifold to maintain optimal Day Tank levels
The result is a self-regulating system that reduces manual intervention, minimizes the risk of fuel-related issues, and keeps operations running smoothly around the clock.

The Power of Preferred SCADA
What ties it all together is the Preferred SCADA platform. Rather than leaving operators to piece together data from multiple sources, our SCADA provides a real-time overview of the entire system through clear, actionable displays.
Key capabilities include:
- Real-time system-wide monitoring across all equipment groups
- Organized, actionable data displays for fast decision-making
- Full data storage for trending analysis
- Comprehensive alarm history review
For mission critical environments like hospitals and data centers where downtime is not an option, this level of visibility and control is essential.
What’s Next
This project is still ongoing, and Preferred remains engaged as a trusted partner for the duration. Stage 2 being completed ahead of schedule is a reflection of our team’s commitment to delivering on time without compromising on quality.
